Dan Gorham: "The Children of Men" book design

With this design the approach was to concentrate on the baby in general, creating a sence of anxiety and questioning is the baby ok, healthy and alive, with the blue highlighting the baby. The blue highlight was used to fit within the brief and works really nicely in with the design.

Brief:

Re-design a book cover from a selection of old books by penguin. We was only able to use two colours, blue 299c and Black and the type had to be hand generated.

I hand painted this illustration, mainly to get away from the computer and out of my comfort zone, though I thoroughly enjoyed this process.

The book is about the end of fertility and mankind, though a woman becomes pregnant and the baby is the only way mankind can persue. So I thought it would be a good idea to focus on the baby, for example the health of the heart, creating a seance of anxiety, is the heart beating or is it not.
